(re-post)
Driving has become more fun with the increasing number of license plates that 'say something'. Yesterday I saw GRN PA and a number of thoughts went through my mind as I immediately looked at the driver to see what kind of a grandfather he might be. Good heavens, was my first thought, he's my age. I realized I was expecting to see someone the age of my parent, at least, if not older. Had to shift a few notions of generations. And then I wondered if the plates were a gift from grandkids.
My own plates say HM FREE and more than one person has mis-read the H for an I and given me a curious glance. Others ask what "Humphrey" stands for. Sigh. But most people get it right and recall what we used to shout as kids when we were playing tag and raced to safety and 'home'. Kids still do it! I heard it yesterday. I use it as a metaphor for navigating the many challenges of life.
Haven't seen it lately but a smile always occurred whenever I saw a gorgeous old car driven by a gorgeous old man with the plates BOT NEW.
I did a double take and then realized it was a very realistic second plate on a car that proclaimed NDP NFG.
If I could have a second plate on my car I'd want HLF FUL. Or should it be HAL FUL? Hmmm. A third plate could be HAV FUN!
