The acquisition of some stiff yarn that works up like rope (but without the 'dust') and gives a rope look resulted in this basket bag made basically from the easy-peasy technique. (click on IMG)
I like how it acts like a basket and will hold whatever is put into it in an open, sturdy manner. I like how it, upon being carried, turns into a bag with soft- sided features; you can fling it into the trunk of the car and have it nestle in with the groceries.
The handles are done with Tunisian crochet on four stitches. I am becoming more and more delighted with the scope of TC and will be posting shortly about its use in a moebius. The photo shows the back (left) and front of the handles. They work up so quickly and on this width you can use an ordinary crochet hook.
I got to thinking about how narrow could I go with TC and so cast on two stitches, picked up a stitch in the original chain of two (aka sk in the only other stitch), yarn over and back through one stitch, yarn over and back through two remaining stitches as one would in a wider piece of TC.
This is what I got. I could use it in place of I-cord in certain instances. Made in this heavy yarn it could be used for narrow handles or perhaps a belt. Maybe even joined into flat shapes for rugs or chair seat covers.
Stretched out like this you can see it makes a balanced or even pattern.
