I checked the online garage sale ads early this morning. One in my area was intriguing – a 7 a.m. start … "most items free or small fee" …." last minute decision to move" …. "parking limited but space beside house" … "everything must go tomorrow". Etc. A friendly, upbeat ad. Date of sale was given as Sunday February 3. What the heck. Takes me a few days to adjust to a new month.
So, instead of the morning walk I hopped in the car and toodled along just before eight on a gloriously sunny bird-songed day.
The address was on the opposite side across a divided street so I had to travel a few blocks along to the next street, make a left and go another block before I could do a U-turn. There was a space in front of house.
No sign of garage sale happening. No sign Garage Sale. There was a young man with a notebook standing a few steps down along the sidewalk. I had noticed him on my initial pass by the house. He had noticed me.
I made some half-jokingly comment about him taking notes. He said he was, actually, because he had watched seven or eight cars drive by and then come back to park and knock on door with no response. I then, seriously (been there; done that), said I thought he might be part of a Psych 101 project. He said he was taking some Psych courses (ha-ha, said the mystery writer hat I wear) but this was just curiosity. And, no, he had not placed the ad.
So I came home and delayed my breakfast evern further in order to chronicle this.
I plan to go by later and see if anything is happening. Maybe the sellers slept in. Maybe someone else had placed the ad as a joke: I have come across this before, usually with a sign announcing the fact.
