Out of the Ordinary

Storage

IMG_6917Containers that are not suitcases (which need to be taken off the shelf and opened) but are more convenient with contents viewable are being sought.

I decided to crochet one using some Irish fishing line.  You can see the start of it.

Then, at Rotary sale on the weekend, I came across the 9-compartment, cotton, 'knitted' one.  Hmmm.  I like it …. but …..  it isn't quite ….. I don't know …. it may stay or it may not.

This one replaced a shallow wicker bun basket and I am pleased with it; actually, I think I will make it again only this time with higher sides.  It is stiff plastic with a nice texture and all I did was cut in from each corner of a rectangle,  crossover the cut edges, punch holes on both and secure with twine.

It satisfied immediately because I was looking for something (beyond the wicker basket) which would hold the items 'at a glance' state (it does!) and would give the pleasure of having made it myself.

This old wooden in-box from somebody's desk was a delight as soon as I saw it at the church sale; I thought it might fit on the stacking shelves with narrow spaces between the stacks.  It does, but I also like how it looks – and 'works' – on top of a suitcase.
