Owl ……

On the walk toward the wilderness area next door ….

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

… I could see that Owl was present on her regular tree branch.

I've only ever seen her facing east, as she is here.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

When I first looked up at her from the front she had her head turned aside and gave the impression of wearing a hood.

Then, when the squirrel that approached,  hoping I had a peanut in my pocket  (I did),  took the peanut and scampered away, Owl swivelled her head and watched him intently.  

She did not swoop;  he disappeared under a hedge; I breathed again.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Not long after I saw Owl for the first time I came across this book at the weekly church sale.  It is fascinating.  The "puke" refers to the pellets that owls regurgitate and  tells what can be found in those pellets – fur, feathers, seeds, grass, straw – bones!

The pellet under the tree this morning was mostly fur with a small bone-like piece.
