This was the sequence of events: the earth shoes (at 10 o'clock) and then clockwise.
The earth shoes put your heels lower than the rest of your foot and I found them intriguing. The woman who sold them to me at a garage sale (brand new condition) said they were her sister's but she had not been able to get used to them. I liked the upright and comfortable posture that resulted from simply standing still in them but I could see how walking was unusual and a bit distracting.
In the course of researching earth shoes on the Net good ol' Google alerted me to MBT shoes. They sounded really interesting and I wanted to try a pair. Thing is I had come across them at one of the weekly church sales several months previously but at that time had no idea what they were or why they sort of rocked so I did not get them.
Out went the antenna and the process of querying and getting into conversations with people who had heard of them and a few who had tried them. Consignment stores said they got them occasionally but they sold immediately.
The blue pair of Mary Janes showed up on the crafts table at a church sale seven or eight weeks after I started the search. Brand new. I liked them from the start and was gradually getting acquainted with them.
Then the sandals showed up at another church sale and they were more movemental than the MJ's.
On Wednesday I came across a video on them (yes, church sale) and learned MBT stands for Masai Barefoot Technology with useful information on the whys and wherefors of them.
On Friday discovered that a woman at that church sale has been wearing them for years, in a lighter running shoe form and shared her experience.
So I am 'walking and rocking', a bit at a time …..
Standing and rocking – that has become an epiphany. I find I am doing it when I am not wearing the shoes. It is actually more than rocking – it is back on heels, pivot forward across ball of foot, roll onto toes – a complete movement. It feels great. Inadvertent exercise. A natural, flowing, effortless movement of shoulders, back, hips, legs, feet.

You have the most amazing consignment stores/church sales where you live. Plus your weather must be better for having yard sales at this time of year. I love ‘thrifting’ and it has become so popular with everyone I know. I like reading about your finds. Keep sharing.
