The response from others at the church sale ranged from "…haven't a clue" to a file holder, plate stand, some sort of toaster, pie cooler, spice rack, something used in a lab, part of something but missing important part, mitten dryer, magazine rack …. But none seemed to really fit.
I paid a dollar and brought it home.
Any ideas? Do you know of any web sites where 'mystery items' can be posted for perusal?

I love playing “guess the thing!” I think it’s a rack for bottles, although it looks maybe too small for standard wine bottles. I think the middle pics show it “right way up,” so bottles can slide in from the front, rest on the half-circles, and not slide out because each holder tilts slightly toward the back.
Hi Jen. Yes, but what kind of bottles – do any suggest that are long and not much bigger than big test tubes – and why the varying lengths? I am sure the function will bring about an “of course” reaction – it’s just finding the function that fits.
Thanks for this input. Now has me thinking ‘long, narrow, graduated bottles ……?????’
Definitely the middle photos show the right side up – the frame is strongest that way. It looks like a cooling rack
to me – something that a large bakery would use to hold loaves of bread (packaged) and trays of cookies or buns.
