Shortest day, longest night, of the year.
How fantastic. How dramatic.
Six months from now the day will be the longest, the night the shortest and that is wonderfully fantastic too, but the drama of the winter solstice is in the indoor/outdoor aspects.
We have been moving more and more indoors because of the increasing cold, the decreasing light.
Now that has changed as the light begins to increase and the weather will gradually warm.
It will be some time for a noticeable difference but as of today there is a shift. A change of rhythm. Nature has moved, if only by a minute, and we, part of nature, respond on some deep level to the return of the light. To a moving toward the lessening barrier between indoors and outdoors. A cause for celebration. Happy Solstice! A natural New Year.

Winter Solstice is bright and sunny here. I didn’t stay up to see the eclipse of the moon, a creature of habit and early bed, but I did get some great photos of the moon this morning before it dipped below the horizon.
I’ve been seeing all sorts of Silly Bandz in many different stores now. I’m sure lots of kids will be wearing them after the holidays.
Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Very happy winter solstice Karen! It is a marvelous day of the year, I hope you enjoyed it. Thinking of you.
Hello Linda
I’ll trot over to your site and see if you posted photos of the moon – I never tire of looking at it in any form. There are also silly bandz rings! And all the very best to you and yours as well.
Morning Emily
Much enjoyed. And full moon this morning setting is special too. Nature in an endless performance.
