The creation of a home in a lilac hedge sixty years ago has influenced each and every home I have made since and is one reason I continue to be fascinated by other such habitats. Such as this one made from driftwood on the beach.
Crossing the threshold. There was no one home.
The interior with a northerly view.
There is beauty and worth in the simplicity, the use of available materials, the wish to build an abode, the act of building an abode, the freedom of such construction, the satisfaction.
The duration of occupation is a moot point.

I was fascinated by a similar structure when we were in BC last summer. It was at the Esquimalt Lagoon. Have a look here and see if you think it is the same one …. http://craftygardener.blogspot.com/2008/09/through-my-lens-driftwood.html
Morning Linda Wow! Gorgeous beach home. I bet it was quite wonderful inside. The one I saw was at Ogden Point. It is an ongoing adventure, this kind of construction. I wonder if anyone is seriously seeking such ‘homes’ and recording them, perhaps chatting with the makers. Would make a worthwhile study. And how special that it evokes memories for you.
