Out of the Ordinary

Planting potatoes ; grow up! grow up!

IMG_9366 A cooking oil jug from Patisserie Daniel;  organic seed potatoes from D'n'T'n'O ;   cloudy, rainy'ish weather – perfect for planting.

IMG_9367 The top and bottom got cut off the jug, the jug placed in the garden,  three potato pieces with eyes got put, cut side down, on the earth and then covered with soil; they are giving a last peek for the sake of the camera.

IMG_9369 Once covered with dirt some 'weeds' got tossed on top of them….compost-to-be.

As the potato leaves grow I will continue to add more soil, more 'weeds', until the earth reaches the top of the oil jug.  Once the plants have flowered and the leaves are turning that colour and texture that tell you the harvest is ready to be harvested,  I'll lift the jug up and dig out potatoes from the column.

I've grown potatoes in this manner in sono tubes,  plastic containers such as laundry hampers and garbage pails.
