Thirty two years ago I wrote my first column for an Ontario weekly newspaper.
Thirteen years later I wrote the last one. Nearly seven hundred columns.
I was intending to say something about the experience, mention how I never seemed to lack for something to write about; detail how the visit to the grocery store yesterday resulted in an accidental flipping of the scoop holder in the bulk bird seed bin which resulted in bird seed flinging up and then showering down; describe how, when I was at the check out and paying for the groceries, millet seeds kept dropping onto the counter and both the cashier and I carefully ignored the fact that it was falling from my hair; laughing as I got in the car and drove away, wondering if the anniversary of the column was responsible …..
The past eighteen years have been quite a journey. And the adventures continue!
(If you google Adventures of a Homebody and click on the Google books link you can read the book online for free. )

Your “dear Elaine/Abe letter” in your first column hit my funnybone. I’ve always enjoyed your sense of humour.

Wow, wow, wow…. happy anniversary …. sort of …. and thank-you for sharing this today.
What a wonderful job you had in the past, writing about life. I love the fact that you used the Homefree title even then.
