It isn't something I do often but when I do I much enjoy it. Ironing. There's something about the smell of clothing being pressed that is pleasing; it may be memories evoked: my mother liked ironing, both the process and the result. I like ironing with the sound and sight of outdoors; ironing in the garden would be a delight.
The iron is old and simple and works great. If a crease needs steam I dip my fingers under the tap and shake droplets of water onto the garment. At times I have ironed wet fabric until it is dry and smooth.
Usually the wind and a clothesline and dripping wet garments result in clothing that suits me just fine….so ironing isn't something I do often but when I do I much enjoy it.

I enjoy ironing…you are so right about the smell…
Used to ‘sprinkle’ our clothes, roll them in bundles, then press them.
THEN perma press material was born!!! YES!
Ah yes, IF we got too busy to do the ironing, we would put the rolled wet clothes in our freezer…had forgotten about that one! Memories!
Now you’ve reminded me of how clothes were sprinkled and rolled and set by the ironing board – I can even ‘see’ the basket into which they were put. Thanks!
An old cloth, wet and wrung out, makes a wonderful pressing cloth … can’t you just hear the steam hissing up from the wet cloth? and the smell? and pressing with brown paper … now why did we do that??? I know it takes out candle wax but did it give a nice crease … can’t remember right now, maybe later 🙂
Now I’m curious about the brown paper pressing cloth idea – I’ve never heard of it – hmmmmm?
Brown paper stopped the iron from leaving any scorch or burn marks on delicate material.
