Socks depending from the needles of the women at Guild. Socks dancing around the needles at the Knitting Cafes. Socks, socks, socks on the blogs, blogs, blogs. I am mesmerized by the abundance of so many gorgeous socks. It took the sheer mass of socks being knit in one place at one time – Madrona Fiber Arts Retreat – to ‘find voice and speak’ about so many ‘hidden treasures’. It seems once those socks are off the needles they ‘disappear.’ Ladies! Men! Show and share your socks!!! Wear sandals or open-toed shoes. Roll up your pant legs or put on a skirt.
Why?
Because showing and sharing what one has made honours the maker and the item made.
Because it makes us feel good and that is a local/global benefit. Because knitted things are magnets which attract attention and encourage communication between people and result in exchange of comments and information and networking.
Because it’s too darned important to any longer ignore the keeping of all those beautiful, glorious ‘expressions’ out of sight.
