KNITTING : ELASTICS AS YARN

Img_0734While trying to come up with a non-skid surface for a DIY Knitting project – Foot Covers (in progress, sort of shuffling along), the idea of knitting soles with elastic bands came to mind.  A quarter pound of 6 inch by 1/16 inch rubber bands were discovered for 99 cents at Staples and I spent some time staring in fascination at the display: I had no idea rubber bands came in such a variety of sizes and lengths!  At home I attached a few together in the Calamari Method of  the Mason Dixon Knitting gals, cast on a few stitches – three to be exact – impatience prevailed.  Ready, set, knit….  Wow!  I’ve often thought of wool as having a life of its own and feeling ‘alive’ as it was knit.  Rubber bands are positively frisky.  It feels as if you could suddenly stop knitting and the elastic(s) would continue, thank you very much, all on their own.
