Out of the Ordinary

CHANCE ON COFFEE

Was sitting outside a cafe in China Town this morning, very early, accompanied by the street sweeper and an ongoing litany (it being Sunday this word seems appropriate!), “A dollar for a coffee? Just a dollar? For a coffee?” It’s not easy to tune out another human being; rationalization takes place in the mind while the body battles guilt. Finally a woman approached him and I guess gave him the required “dollar”. I left soon after and passed him, further up the street, sitting on a bench and scraping away at one of those scratch-and-win lottery tickets. My mind, heart and soul wished him well.
