‘TENT’ DRESSING

Several months ago, in the cool season, I discovered the benefits of clothing that ‘tents’ the body. This came about through a dress made of a cotton/linen material with enough substance so that it framed the body rather than draped it and allowed the body to move rather independently of the garment. There was a lovely freedom of movement in this and an added bonus was that the ‘space’ between body and clothing allowed the body heat to act as its own furnace. In the hot spell yesterday (lord was it steamy!, we broke records!) I wondered if this idea would prove worthwhile. Well, it did! I didn’t want a dress with sleeves, of course, so I went through my wardrobe looking for something ‘tenty’ and ‘summery’. Found it. A denim jumper. The denim is like tarpaulin, stands away from the body, and could be worn without a blouse or t-shirt. I was certainly still hot but not as bothered as I had been in clothes that clung.
