Blankets into clothing

IMG_7498
Cozy is an inherent factor of blankets and that is one reason blankets get turned into coats.  As I did here with a T-coat, a simple cross-over design with sail-like sleeves. The blanket was a thrift store find, similar to an army blanket but lighter and of “unknown fibres” which always delights and puzzles me.  What did they do – throw a whole bunch of material into something that turned it into something different but of such mixed origin as to be unidentifiable?
Whatever it is, the light weight, the warmth, and the wind resistance made a perfect coat.  And it is  cozy.

The jumper/tabard is a Dragonfly design, one seam, edges left free, waiting on its pocket because I haven’t yet decided it I want to use the reverse for it. I was browsing the tools in a garage at a garage sale and came across the blanket that became this.  I suspect it was an old camping blanket or something kept in the trunk of the car for emergencies.  It did not smell of animal or mold or mothballs or smoke; it was in good condition and clean;  it had no label but it felt like quality;  I liked the reversible pattern;  it was definitely cozy;  the man who sold it to me looked a bit surprised and a bit pensive as we completed the transaction (he asked a dollar: I did not bargain) – likely wondering what his wife would say when he told her someone actually bought that old blanket.  I suspect they will be even more puzzled if they happen to see me wearing it!  What fun.

And there is still snow and it is still cold (I guess it would be) so both these ‘blankets’ are going to be put to good use today.
