Out of the Ordinary

Month: July 2004

  • SPECIAL DAY: MOON CHILD

A combination of factors started this day off extremely well: waking early and anticipatory, getting outdoors before the sun had purred its way around the corner of the house, facing a different direction (because of the shade) at the breakfast picnic table, relaxing into this ‘newness’, noticing that the morning glory had not yet opened. Then – as the sun made its presence known with warmth and light, the morning glory buds began to open. Oh – not quite right before my eyes – I would glance away to watch a bird antic or read a bit of the newspaper (the nice parts that inspire further ‘opening’ in life, because that is really what it’s all about) or look to make sure I wasn’t about to eat a bug along with the blueberries and peaches. But the blue would then suddenly beckon again and I would see that another one – or two – flowers were glorying the morning. Finally I got up and admired them close up. They are indeed, ‘heavenly blue’, but there is a tinge of rose along the veins of each flower. And a central heart of yellow. But basically blue. And when I cupped one in my hand it was as if a silky piece of sky was nestling there. The day unwraps similarily after such encouragement of expectation.
