SLEEP

Perhaps it’s time to stop spending all that time talking about the weather and start talking about sleep experiences. I find it truly amazing that a state in which we spend around one third (one third! one third!!!!!) of our life is so unexplored. Sure, science is looking into it, plodding along, finding out interesting stuff. And, as usual, science is ‘proving’ what we already know so let’s use science as a motivator to take ourselves seriously. What if we greeted each other, not with “Nice day, eh?” “Yeah, but it’s supposed to rain.” but with “So, how’d you sleep last night? Still having luck getting your dreams to unfold sequentially from night to night? How’s trying out different weights of blankets and night clothing on your arthritis? Did sleeping in different beds on your vacation give you any information about benefits of different head/foot boards for cramping sleep positions? What about mattresses? Does this early morning sun wake you naturally? Do you find you sleep differently depending on what you eat before you go to bed? Have you tried sleeping with the radio on? Tell me about your dreams.”
