The recurring item at garage sales this morning was pick-up-sticks, that game where you have a round tube of many coloured sticks which you dump all out and then – well, actually I forget the next steps. It may be simply my memory at fault but I suspect I forget because I wasn’t really interested in delicately picking one from the other (see – I remember this much and am obviously repressing!) but wanted to build something with the darned things. Anyway, they appeared at two sales and I admit this is a rather small sample to cite as recurring but given the number of sales due to rainish weather and the fact that I cannot remember the last time I saw pickup sticks at all, I think my calling them recurrent is valid.
Three rather interesting books I got at one sale are out on the deck and will settle into a free box somewhere, possibly with a warning sign: they reek of smoke. Usually I am careful about this but these books were offered in a van (due to the weather) and I thought the smell was coming from a man seated inside the van and going through the books – I know he smokes. Well, darn.
