CONVERSATIONS WITH SELF

I know I am not the only person who talks to herself – I’ve seen and heard others in this fascinating activity – but I wonder if we all do it, under what circumstances, to what extent, how expressively, and why. I engage in both monologue and dialogue which answers the question do I answer myself. If self asks Self a question, the reply is usually helpful and worthwhile. Idle or observant babble is friendly and companioning. Sometimes I talk out loud, sometimes I speak silently but find I am moving my lips. I am not at all poker-faced when adventuring thusly so in public I take care to have non-evident self conversations: experience has taught me that people talking to the air get peculiar looks or are avoided – by myself as well. Has anyone ever seriously filmed people talking to themselves. What a challenge that would be, to get past the self-consciousness (I don’t think it could be done candidly but maybe….) and record this facet of human behaviour. Hey….Leif Parker…….
