That open weave towel that I was working on in Turkish stitch K1 (yo K2tog) K1 on biggish needles with a cotton and linen yarn to produce a lacey look has turned out very well. It absorbs water well, dries quickly, the texture is pleasant on the hands and invigorating on the face, and it looks lovely in the bathroom. I wonder why commercial towels haven’t ‘cottoned’ on to this. The closest I’ve seen are those hand towels with buttons meant to attach to frig handles for use in the kitchen. Often they are in a rather open weave pattern.
I also am using two hand knit placemats (‘rescued’ from a thrift store) as guest towels. They are finer cotton in a leaf pattern, I think it is. I hope whoever put so much time and lovely work into them has some ‘knowing’ that they are being used and admired – if not for the purpose they were intended!
