Out of the Ordinary

CHANGE OF HABIT

I read somewhere that it takes twenty-one times of altered action to change a habit.  This came to mind because I have returned the kitchen garbage container to its original, handy place at the end of the sink counter.  For a month or so the garbage receptacle was banished to a spot inside the broom closet; banished in that it was taking part in that extraordinary practise when selling a house with real estate agents of trying to make a house look as if no one does anything in it – like make garbage or use sinks or leave a book lying around.  Yesterday I either reached blessed detachment or simply got fed up enough to put the garbage bin back where it can easily be accessed. (Interestingly enough I think the person who is going to buy the house then came through.)  But I keep going to the broom cupboard, opening the door, and having to halt my hand from dropping whatever I am trying to get rid of as I realize the garbage is not there.  Today I actually remembered before I opened the broom closet door.  I think it might have been number eighteen.  Maybe I am a quick learner.  Chuckle.
