Out of the Ordinary

SENIORS KINDERGARTEN

I never got to go to kindergarten; I am making up for that lost opportunity.  When I turned sixty in the summer and the government started sending me a cheque each month something in me seemed to shift and it was as if I suddenly allowed myself to play.  With others.  As I would have in kindergarten.  An increasing number of friends and acquaintances developing illnesses and some even dying were a factor as well in deciding how to spend each day.  Those challenged by a serious sickness seemed to leap into accelerated living, to begin to treat themselves better, and I wondered – why wait?

Joining Social Circles was one means of getting together with people looking for ways to enjoy life in the company of like-minded people.  A hike, trip to the Art Gallery, exploring new restaurants have been enjoyed so far.  This group is unique in that its focus is social wellness, the benefits of which are being more and more realized.  Fun!

The Victoria Knitters Guild and the Knit Café (at Three Squares Downstairs Café, corner of Vancouver and Johnson, Fridays from 1-4 pm) and KIP’ing (Knitting in Public wherever, whenever, with whoever) are providing many opportunities to play.
