CASTING ON TO KNIT ROUND

I’ve (re?) discovered this method for casting on stitches for circular knitting on double pointed needles.  Say you need to cast on 28 stitches on three needles 8…8…12:  cast all the stitches (28) onto one double pointed needle. Knit across all the stitches for the first row.  (If you are following a pattern then do so instead of plain knitting).  On next row, with second needle, knit 8 sts. With the third needle knit the next 8 sts.  With fourth needle knit the last 12 sts.  You now have three needles loaded with 8, 8 and 12 sts.  Making sure the sts. are not twisted but lined up neatly on all the needles, use the first needle to knit into the last st knit on the fourth needle and thus join the 28 sts into a round. Continue to knit in the round.  It amazes me how many words it takes – and how complicated it sounds! – to describe what is so easily shown; hopefully it makes sense.
