This’n’that

That seagull I spoke of last week – well, he or she has become a regular again.  It likely has nothing to do with the lengths of twine I put out on the deck and which quickly disappeared.  It likely isn’t because I cut up an apple for the robins on the railing.  It’s been chilly and the birds are belting out their spring songs but eating heartily of the peanuts and suet and seeds at the feeders. Hummingbird does come to the blooms on the scented geranium but its leaves were beginning to look a bit wind burned so I brought it back into the house and hummer went back to the nectar feeder.  Seagull likely says to itself, "I’m a bird.  I deserve to be fed.  Can’t she see me getting ready to settle on this lounger.  Last time she sat here  she had a plateful of food I’d be more than willing to share.  I’ll just wait….."

Every November, when all the leaves are gone from the trees, I am surprised to see the houses of my neighbours again.  Every spring, when the leaves begin to start to show and the view across the gardens becomes fuzzy, I am again raised-eyebrow’ed, thinking, "Oh, those houses are going to be obscured again soon."
  I’ll take another picture of the same scene in a week or so.

I knew Slinky’s came in colours and plastic but I had no idea they also came in a form other than round.  How does this kind ‘work’ in the garden?

The socks where I squared off the toes instead of decreasing to a roundness are enough to my liking that I expect I will finish socks off this way from now on.  The toes seem to nestle perfectly into the sock first try with no having to rearrange the foot to get the toes in the right place.  And I don’t suppose there is a huge amount of stretching needed in a round toe to accommodate a more or less square end of foot, but the need to no longer adjust psychologically to this difference is satisfying and who knows how worthwhile.  Something I am sure science has on its list of things to be studied.
