Earlier this summer I tried to capture a wasp scraping away at the wooden fence to collect raw material with which to make its nest but the wasp exited stage left as I brought the camera closer.
This afternoon, while checking on the progress of the scarlet runner beans, I saw, I aimed, I succeeded!
The sound of the scraping is so distinctive. And, for the second shot, as I moved to the side to get an angle to show the actual mechanism of the technique – wasp declined to pose and departed.
How beautiful it is.
