Teeny tiny tutorial : sweater dress

Dollar racks in thrift stores are goldmines for playing with fibre : usually the garments have something wrong with them (tear, stain, wear, shrunk, stretched) and that is why they are on the dollar rack and so there is no hesitation in my buying them with the intent of  cutting them up and turning them into something else.

This sweater dress was initially a pleated skirt (I cut off the waist band and some of its length),  a long turtleneck sweater (ribbed waistband got cut away) and a much too small sweater had the sleeves removed and added here. 

Dollar rack garments are great to experiment on  to find out that you really can cut into more fabric than you can imagine and not have it all fray away as you do so.  Or to find a gorgeous linen or silk or wool blouse or dress or whatever with a stain on it and know the owner could not cope with the stain so donated it.  Well, for a dollar I can 'cope' and many a stain has disappeared under my treatment (hot water, a good rub, maybe a drop or two of bleach, sunshine drying) because I have nothing to lose but a dollar whereas the original owner has the memory of the original cost as a factor.

I hope there are dollar racks in your life.  There surely are rummage sales and garage sales and a  dollar or two is certainly acceptable currency at such places.  Care to share your finds?
