Fibre rings

IMG_7906These were inspired by a ring Colleen was wearing on Wednesday evening Knitting at Koffi which Dallas had made;  it looked like a rounded carved jade ring in that subtle green jade can offer.  In fact it was made from a felted I-cord with silver wire setting a piece of jade.  It was stunning.

Playing around with that idea of making rings from fibre  has led to the pinkie finger ring knit in stockingette which turns in on itself to form the gentle shape, the amber wool made by Greek braiding and the one on the thumb done in Tunisian crochet.

Would this not also lend itself to experimenting with different knitting stitches  and various types of yarn…..

The two on the left here are done in a Greek braid while the thumb ring is Tunisian crochet with hemp.

The adventure expanded as I was wearing the rings to see how they felt:  they feel warm and cozy!  Perhaps they act on the fingers as wrist warmers work on the hands.  Perhaps they would ease the symptoms of arthritis.  I am aware of them and they tend to have the 'worry bead' aspect of comfort.
