Knitting needles of a length to suit the item being knitted may prove to be easier and more comfortable to use. More ergonomic, likely.
Cut a pair of knitting needles in half.
Sharpen the rough ends of the pair that now still have the original ends on them in a pencil sharpener and then smooth them with a fine grain sandpaper. You can experiment here with blunt or sharp ends.
A bit of fleece bunched and secured with elastic bands over the cut ends with the original point finished this blue pair. The others were made earlier.
What I discovered – well, see for yourself! The blue needles were hollow. No wonder they were so lovely and light. Well, I now have one short pair of those light needles. The other needles were solid and could be sharpened.

As I’m continuing to knit my old rose scarf, I am really thinking that I will have to shorten these needles for the next scarf. It will make the experience far more relaxing for my shoulders and back! Thanks again for all your continuous help with my projects!
You are welcome – it is such a pleasure. And thanks for the feedback that shorter needles are beneficial to the shoulders and back.
