If you have only ever had lychee fruit in its canned version you might never think that these are lychee in their fresh state – the texture and taste is quite different.
They are starting to appear in the stores now and the season is not long so give them a try.
Choose ones that feel soft and juicy to the touch.
Holding from rounded edge use finger nail to pierce around the stem and peel back leaving enough unpeeled with which to grasp as you eat – the juice is sticky. And that is the seed to the right of the photo.
People seem to dispose of the skins but you will see little heaps of seeds around Chinatown at this time of year.
