Three wasps floating in the hummingbird feeder the other morning.
The holes don't look at all big enough to let a wasp just slip through easily and they certainly aren't losing their balance and falling in.
The solution was to replace the snazzy-looking feeder with the old glass bottle one. The hummingbirds are likely not disappointed – at least not enough so to stay away.
A few hours later I noticed that the middle wasp, which had looked very dead when fished out of the nectar, was very much alive. It soon flew away.
The next morning the other two had gone as well. There was no breeze overnight so I doubt they blew off the railing. Makes me wonder…..
But the old feeder will remain: the new feeder was providing a bit too much excitement – for me and the wasps!

I have a post coming up in a couple of days that shows a fake wasp nest and how I’m trying to keep the wasps away from the deck area. The wasps sure do love the nectar in the hummingbird feeders.

There’s a thought – I have used paper bags blown up to balloon shape and suspended which seems to deter wasps. I am much enjoying the scarlet runner beans! Thanks.
