  • Simplifying ‘stuff’

IMG_2061In this ongoing adventure of acquisition of things that can become 'stuff' when either the psyche or the home space (usually both; one triggers the other) are too full and angst happens,  there are a number of solutions.

Sometimes simply moving things around shifts energy and our perspective;  lets us see 'things' again.  Things we no longer notice are more apt to be felt as 'stuff'.  There is something powerful about getting in touch with our possessions.

Then there are times when a good clearing is necessary.  I find it useful to take things out of a room – the stays,  the goes and the maybes – and pile them in  any convenient place;  here they are in the living room.  It was the storeroom that got emptied.

Once a space is cleared – and that feels good! – a lovely vacuum exists which tends to draw back in only that which retains the good, the relaxed feeling. There is a critical mass beyond which the good feeling begins to take on anxiety aspects.  It has to do with the degree of energy.

Then, when the goes and usually a lot, if not all, of the maybes are 'messing up' a 'living' room there is the question -  "now what?"

It is becoming increasingly difficult to get rid of 'stuff'.

Hang on a sec while I go and see if I can find a photo I took awhile ago that reminded me of this ……

IMG_1931 Found it.  This is the doorway of the local St Vincent de Paul thrift store.

Understandably, they don't want our junk.

And a lot of stuff is junk.

Having said that -  one person's junk can be of use to another – as seen sold at garage sales if the price is right – or put out by the curb with a free sign – or offered on such sites as Used Victoria.

A few experiences of the difficulty getting rid of stuff affects our behaviour with regards to getting more  things,  and their potential of becoming stuff.

We acquire with more thought.  We acquire less.
