Out of the Ordinary

Month: February 2011

  • ‘Flexing fingers’ ….

… for the first day of the week and the last day of the month.

IMG_4224 Mac tells me the date  each day as does  CBC Radio,   the calendar on the wall,  the newspaper.

I like the actual manipulation of this oldie and goodie.  I like the simplicity of not needing a battery or electicity or a delivery person.

Tomorrow there will be an extended process to go from 28  to  01.  And the choice of changing the month or the date first.  Which would you?

IMG_4219 A green fleece jacket is simmering;  the green fleece blanket –  discovered on a fibre archeology church sale dig – is a possibility as the material.  It has been tossed on a sunny surface to see how it catches and translates the light (and astonishes me again with how many greens there are).  It will catch my attention and stopping and staring across the day and perhaps result in enough input and inspiration to fold and drape and cut and stitch and soonest come up with a coatlet.  Or maybe it will go back on the shelf.

IMG_4232 The southernwood plant, rescued from the back corner of a local nursery where it had been placed after being dug up from the boulevard in front of the nursery and put into a pot and found after I had inquired about it –  I had watched it gracing the roadside all summer and wondered where it had gone.  Whew –  huge long sentence – take a breath.  Where was I …..  oh yes,  -  I brought it indoors and  put it between living room and  hall as a welcoming 'touch' for those to'ing and fro'ing.  It is the most wonderful scented foliage'd plant.

It did not like the location.  It sulked and dropped its leaves.

With more bravado than conviction that I was doing the right thing I chopped it back and stuck it in a sunny window and had a bit of a chat with it and  …..  waited.  This morning I felt it was going to be just fine;  and so I am, now, with the  secateur decision.
