Out of the Ordinary

Month: February 2011

  • Snow update

There's still lots of snow and it's still cold and when the wind gusts the wind-chill factor is tangible. Of course we are all talking about it.  I learned that it started to snow at around five yesterday morning so it was QUICK to accumulate;  when I saw it an hour or so later I thought it had been snowing all night.  A weather man explained that it was a "funnel from the Arctic" situation. And that the forecast of "flurries"  could have been correct but something happened just south of us and –  it wasn't "flurries".  Another man gave the details of how school closures are decided upon.  Sounds of snow activity were broadcast.  I love CBC Radio!

I couldn't choose between these two photos so I put in both.

It was a decision just before noon as to whether or not to take the car or walk out and do a two bus journey the other way from downtown for the usual library,  groceries, post office,  errands,  bank etc. daily routine in the Village.

Took the car.  Glad I did.

The secondary roads were packed/ bumpy/ snowy/slushy  but four tires between them and me and not two feet suited me just fine.

The main roads were cleared to pavement.

Sidewalks in the commercial areas were mostly shoveled and salted.  When the wind didn't blow it was quite pleasant walking.  It did not pause in its blowing for long.

I saw a number of  mail delivery persons;  all had on long pants;  one had a baseball cap,  one a tuque,  one a hat;  all had on jackets; one was wearing a scarf:   it is COLD.

Library open.  Grocery store open.  Bank open.  Post office open.

Gas now $123.9.  It was $116.9 a day ago.

Took the main roads home.  Geared down and car scooted up  packed/bumpy/snowy/slushy slope to driveway.

Lots of birds at the feeders.  Not a chubby squirrel in sight.

Noticed icicles dripping.  Watched icicles dripping. Birds are chirping.
