Out of the Ordinary

Month: February 2011

  • Later in the day; still snow.

I walked downtown; gathered quite a layer of  snow across those eight or so blocks.  Noticed a number of stores were closed with "due to snow" signs on the door.  But mostly I was concentrating on walking in snow and slush and on  uneven ground.  Mostly I was rather 'clenched' in body and mind, lacking the usual ease of mobility.  I did note that a good percentage of people had umbrellas up in the snow. And I saw a woman getting on her bicycle;  she had a yoga mat across her back.  I did not see a single postie so have no idea if they were wearing shorts today.  I took the bus home and the friendly driver stopped at the top of my street which meant I did not have to walk back from the stop.  Was quite tired;  snow is tiring.

IMG_4179 By mid-afternoon the snow had stopped falling and there was that feeling of pause as if the day could go either way –  serious melt or more snow.

It did not seriously melt; there was a bit more snow but of the tiny hail, not flake, form.

You do not have to live in the country to sense weather,  to be alert to nuances, to experience some ancient rapport.

IMG_4170 I very much like how nature takes snow and the temperature and skulpts rounded shapes.  Then adds crevices and thumb prints.

IMG_4176 We seldom have icicles here.  They are teeny – but they are icicles.
