This was yesterday in Oak Bay Village. A ten minute hail storm.
Twenty minutes later; decently melted.
Wakened early this morning to hear CBC radio say it was "snowing in Victoria." Opened eyes and looked outside. Wow!
The deck. A junco on the ground; several had been trying to land on the hanging feeders. Soonest there was seed put on the ground for them. The peanuts and fat and nectar feeders got replenished.
The carrier must have delivered the paper very early because there were no footprints on the front walk.
The thought was to do the usual jaunt to Wednesday church sale and see if it was open; car was deep in snow; glove and coat arm were used to clear windshield.
I simply must get a pair of high boots!
Car plowed gamely to the road and then it occurred to me to check driving conditions beyond that so car got backed up while I walked out to check.
Decided again I really must get a pair of high boots.
The side street was deep in snow with one set of tire tracks; it would be a downward slope going but would likely present a challenge on the coming back.
The main street was plowed but active with pedestrians and not a single car. Three of the kids on their way to school were grouching that "high schools never close" and "even the buses aren't running." (They were.)
The main thoroughfare had traffic but they all looked like vehicles with four-wheel drive.
It was still snowing.
Car got cleared (except for a mohawk – I could only reach so far and there was snow up the sleeve of my coat) and put back into her parking space.
Half an hour later it is still snowing – fluffy flakes but lots of them and steadily.
Downtown is within walking distance.
Likely there are paths on the sidewalk from other pedestrians because I wish I had a pair of high boots.
Family in Ontario – is that you I hear chuckling?
