The morning walks are extending in the warming-up weather as there is always something new in bloom or leaf just down the next block ….. around the next corner.
The corners of my mouth -and my heart – lift at the sight of seating in a garden; evidence of the garden being enjoyed. Going beyond 'shaking hands with' to 'embracing' nature.
Inevitable conversations occur between people in their gardens and passersby. Wonderful communication.
And my experience is that people who have seating in their garden are far more likely to pass on their enjoyment in words, demeanour, mutual interest, shared knowledge. Not to focus on weeds, weather, bugs, blights, work.
Children instinctively seek and find seating in a garden.
I chanced on this garden with its seating on the weekend. (Good ol' garage sales that take me down streets I have never been on before.)
It has been here for fifteen years and from the start the comfortable chair(s) have been used on a daily basis by seniors in the neighbourhood resting on their walks, a postperson at the end of her route, bicyclists as a turnaround on their trek, kids hanging out, people stopping to relax and chat, couples enjoying the couple-of-chairs.
The inspiration to place such seating in the garden came from a similar situation in the creator's youth near Mt. Tolmie. As did the name Bide-a-Wee.

I love this observation of embracing nature – the seats in the garden and places wherever you are. Finding perhaps that small spot of nature as well as the vast ones.
