Out of the Ordinary

Month: September 2011

  • Nylon … fleece …. clothing as architecture housing the body

The shrug'n'vest = coat in nylon from this post  is enough of a delight to keep me exploring the warmth and lightness and shelter of nylon in garments.

IMG_5809 Here the nylon got translated into a hat (better pix to follow) and with its top notch for my top knot it stayed on my head on a recent windy day and was cosy.

Fleece material, which epiphany'ed me a year or so ago, is  here as a vest (I love the design – two slits and it is done!)  and teamed with the nylon shrug.  It serves when the wind has more of a chill in it than the nylon vest is comfortable with.

IMG_5821 Wanting to see how the nylon would express as basic clothing I used the origami (orikeito) dress design mentioned initially and then later

I am pleased!  It flows …. floats …. houses.

The reaction to varying temperatures is being observed;  autumn with its cool mornings and warm mid-days,  cool winds, chilly winds, hot sun, shaded sun provides many situations.

IMG_5823 Here's the hat; simple foldover and then foldup design.

The scarf resulted from tying together cut-out pattern pieces from a blouse;  I liked very much the texture and colour of the material so knotted the pieces into a scarf which continues to drape nicely and unravel interestingly over the years.

The rummage sale where I came across the pieces in a MISC box with other  DWIP's (Discarded Works In Progress;  this had the pattern attached to it, likely the donor hoped someone would make up the blouse; wonder what she would think of my re-purposing) is at the Monterey Center and happening again in October.
