  • Teeny tiny tutorial : tie-covered hanger

IMG_6785This is the technique promised back here.

All you need is a tie and a wooden coathanger.  Here is a hanger that has been covered not once, but twice, in the past;  I guess that would be "reupholstered"!

IMG_6786The top hanger is the one that was 'rescued'; I am using it because the tie for the tutorial is a large one; the bottom hanger is the size that will work in most ties.

Push hanger into narrow end of tie as shown;  fold tie back to other end, fold up toward hook; where the tie meets the hook cut a small opening into the seam by snipping seam threads.                                                                                                                                       Now the tie has been turned over to the back side and the end pushed into the opening just made by the scissors.                                                                                                                                                                             Turned onto its front again with the wide part lying just below the hook.

At this point I wrapped the tie once around the hook and put the end through the wrap to make the knot; you might have to wrap it twice if the tie is narrower.  Experiment.
