What would you say this was if you came across it at a sale?
The image on the side suggested something in the kitchen. It pumps up and down and I thought it might be something to do with separating oil from …?
So I googled Images.
It's a cream maker! Milk and butter turn into cream when pumped. I don't know how.
Different sites give dates of 195o's and 1970's.
Made in Bournemouth, UK. by Hamilton Dale.
It was 50 cents and well worth satisying my curiosity.

Yes your mystery object is a ‘pump action’ cream maker – well it ‘re-constitutes’
cream from butter and slightly warm milk. My mother had one of these
in the ?? late 50s but the plastic/bakelite cup on top was pale yellow. I think
the make was TALA – but it’s a looooooooong time ago!
My sister and I used to argue about ‘who makes the cream’
to go with apple pie. Only makes a small quantity though.
The important thing is that you should use UNSALTED
butter – otherwise the result will taste a bit like Philly Cheese
(no bad thing there, though – for savoury canapes etc….)
Have fun – and happy hunting next time you’re scouring the sales.

Hi again,
http://blog.modernmechanix.com/cream-maker-among-newest-home-aids/
Here’s a link to a similar kitchen gadget (marketed as ‘new’ in 1935!!) which gives a short description of how it’s used. Looks like a few people remember these.
