For chilly mornings a 4-foot square shawl is cosy and warm, folded on the diagonal, draped over shoulders and around neck, tied at the front.
As the day warms, a knot at two adjoining ends of the unfolded material provides a bit of ballast and interest and turns the shawl into a cape. Reminds me of a shepherd.
