I was sitting on a bench in the parkette beside the library enjoying an orange and the sun when a crow landed on the bench not far from me and began to pay attention to a newspaper that someone had left there.
In the ten or so seconds before I got enough past my astonishment/amusment to dig out my camera and start recording, the bird had half unfolded the paper so that it opened against the back of the bench – in a readable position – but then it fell forward onto the bird's head. Crow ducked from beneath the paper and I caught on camera what followed. I could imagine the script going something like this:
"Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Caw! Caw!! Caw!!! …. Well, darn. Just when I get something to really 'crow about' there's no one around to listen."
