(The Return of) Valkyrie !!! ??? (and what a return it is)
(This was originally posted exactly four years ago)
I came across this statue many years ago at a garage sale and purchased it from the artist. It seems to be made from plaster as heavy as cement.
From the front she is – amazing.
However, she is standing in front of a mirror because…..
Now, as for the ???: the work is not signed and I remember speaking with the artist but only briefly. Since then I have wished, at times, for more details, for some background. I did go back to the townhouse complex where I purchased it but only because there was another garage sale there and no one could answer my queries about an artist who had lived there in the past.
So the ??? remain unanswered. But the unknown aspects do not detract from my enjoyment of the piece. I salute you, artist, whoever and wherever you are.
A year ago, during a major move and downsizing, I donated her to the local weekly church sale.
Yesterday, at that same sale, there she was! I am told she had been purchased - and had now been returned.
I am not sure how I feel about her now being a painted lady. And that she is not only a Valkyrie but Brunhilde (so the church women called her). And that she is indeed signed – a scribble of a signature with the year 1999.
But she is back home.
