Spirograph'ed ear muffs
A renewed interest in spirographs and how they would translate onto fabric (great on linen; problem was to come up with a marking pen with a fine enough point to make the design but which would also be permanent; still working on this; any suggestions?) and a dip in the temperature to below freezing (which is really really cold for Victoria) got me thinking ear muffs.
They worked just fine. Linen didn't have the stretch to gather nicely around a pair of ear muffs so a thrift store tank top was used. The challenge with it was to get it flat enough on which to draw; the round cake pan covered with a plastic bag in the photo had the tank top stretched over it, secured with rubber bands, and then pulled even tighter. An embroidery hoop wasn't solid enough.
I don't expect to be washing these so the marking pens that faded on the linen with a test wash were used here without that concern.
I'll give them a try tonight at Knitting at Koffi but in the meantime Stanislaus agreed to model them provided we do the shoot in a window which had to remain closed: it really is chilly outside.
The same technique could be used to make door knob covers or a pin cushion (would need to be stuffed with something) or a cozy for over a hair bun or a cushion or ?????
