My car doesn't actually stall when it comes across an unexpected garage sale but it does stop very quickly at free piles by the side of the road – particularly when that heap has what I thought was something to do with weaving.
Upon further inspection at home – I had no idea what it was. I was not sure if the metal piece with the IKEA name and BAR was even meant to be part of it. Moving all the moving parts still held no clue.
Curiosity got me driving back to the house where the free pile was and knocking on the door. At least I would have knocked had the door stayed closed but it opened just as I raised my knuckles and considerably startled the young man carrying a bowl with apple peelings. I explained why I was there and what I wanted to know.
He thought for a moment as he made his way to the compost container in the driveway. "Oh," he said over his shoulder, "That was something someone else got in a free pile and he didn't know what it was either. He thinks it might be an easel."
I came home and fiddled around with it again with easel in mind. Nope.
It may end up by the curb with a big question mark.
