(re-post)
Inspired by the technique of stringing beads on yarn and knitting them into a piece, and seeing the jewelery and accessories and garments fellow Guild (Victoria Knitters') members have produced using this method – but – wanting to use something other than tiny beads which whispered "cranky, cranky…." when I considered them – knots came to mind.
Knot and knit. Well. Much trial and error with different wools and combinations of ply and colours happened next. Much frogging.
The adventure continues….but the sample shown is offered for show and tell. Maybe others have done the same. Other 'unventers'. ????
The bottom four rows are what happened when I made a string of knots along a length of wool and then knit with it: an erratic and subtle effect. A thinner cotton yarn and a plenitude of knots are on the agenda for further exploration.
The rest of the rows are in the dropped stitch pattern with wool wrapped two times around the needle and the wool knot being made by passing the ball three times through a loop (as shown) just before the needle wrap.
