  • Faces

    (re-post)

IMG_3807This was lying flat on a table at the Friday church sale and I had noticed it on my initial quick stroll around the hall but it was lying flat and from afar it did not prompt my investigation until the slow stroll.

I had thought it was a pile of leather;  I discovered it was clay.

You have to imagine it lying flat and in a large shadowy space to follow my next considerations which were that it was interesting and likely raku and the artist had provided little spaces for possible perching of items.  Seen as it is in this photo I would have ‘cottoned on’ much sooner.

One of the church lady workers then asked, “Do you see the face?”

Well ……  she walked over and took it and turned it over ……

Oh!  I saw a face.  Now, it was not the face – that came a few seconds later  and which is definitely a man –  I saw a lady,  the ‘brim’ of his hair being a brim of her hat, or maybe a thick bang.  When I mentioned this to the church lady she saw it too.

But the man with the hooded eye and strong nose caught and held attention.

There is no signature.  Not even an initial or two.  Not even a mark.

    Artists!  Sign your work!!!!!

Why I feel so strongly about this is for another post.

But, whoever you are …..  thank you.
